LETTERS

Negative
The developed film that contains a reversed tone image of the original scene.
Adjustable-Focus Lens

A lens that has adjustable distance settings.
Time Exposure
A comparatively long exposure made in seconds or minutes.
Enlargement
A print that is larger than the negative or slide; blowup.
Interspersed Aspect Ratio
A basic requirement of certified photofinishers and certified photofinishing equipment; specifies the three system print formats - C, H and P - that users select during picture-taking must be available at photofinishing. See also

Slide
A photographic transparency (positive) mounted for projection
Graininess
The sand-like or granular appearance of a negative, print, or slide. Graininess becomes more pronounced with faster film and the degree of enlargement.
Ortho (Orthochromatic)
Denotes film sensitive to blue and green light.
Off-The-Film Metering
A meter which determines exposure by reading light reflected from the film during picture-taking.
Definition
The clarity of detail in a photograph.
